Comprehensive Certified Lymphedema Therapist training commonly includes at least 135 hours of Complete Decongestive Therapy education<\/strong>. Norton School\u2019s Full CDT Lymphedema Certification Course divides those hours into 45 hours of home study and 90 hours of live classroom instruction<\/strong>. The classroom portion is completed over nine consecutive days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The total calendar time depends on how quickly you complete the home study and which classroom dates you choose. For many students, the process takes several weeks from beginning the pre-course work to completing the live training and final examinations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

After completing the course and successfully passing the written and practical final examinations, participants receive a certificate confirming their status as a Certified Lymphedema Therapist trained in Manual Lymph Drainage and Complete Decongestive Therapy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why Does CLT Training Require 135 Hours?<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Lymphedema therapy involves much more than learning a massage sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A clinician must understand how to assess swelling, recognize contraindications and medical red flags, apply multilayer compression bandaging, measure limbs, recommend compression garments, teach exercise and skin care, and build a long-term self-management plan.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Lymphedema Network\u2019s training position statement identifies 135 hours of Complete Decongestive Therapy coursework<\/strong> as the minimum educational benchmark for practitioners treating lymphedema. That framework includes at least 45 hours of theoretical instruction and 90 hours of practical, hands-on laboratory education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Those hours are designed to develop both knowledge and physical skill. Watching a demonstration is different from applying a safe, effective bandage system, performing Manual Lymph Drainage correctly, or adapting treatment to an individual patient.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
