CDT Advanced & Review Course for Certified Lymphedema Therapists

Advanced & Review

Course Description

During this course the Certified Lymphedema Therapist (CLT) will receive an in-depth review of Manual Lymph Drainage (MLD) strokes and sequences as well as compression principles. This workshop will improve manual skills, clarify the rationale for standard versus modified approaches to various clinical presentations, and improve continuity of care across CLTs.

Advanced techniques will be demonstrated and discussed regarding custom garment solutions as well as complex bandage applications with actual lymphedema patients. Participants are invited to bring case studies for open discussion thereby elevating the group's comprehension of advanced CDT adaptations.

Course Objectives

At the conclusion of this CDT Advanced & Review Course participants will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate the correct application of strokes and sequences of Manual Lymph Drainage (Vodder technique)
  2. Recite the principles, effects, applications, and contraindications of compression therapy and MLD for patients with lymphedema
  3. Develop an appropriate, tailored plan of care with a renewed appreciation for the unique structure and function of the lymphatic system
  4. Employ and appreciate safe and effective compression therapy techniques using short stretch bandage materials and medically-correct gradient support stockings and sleeves for advanced presentations
  5. Develop therapeutic solutions for complex patients using the tools and techniques of CDT
